On a par with film greats – The Zurich Film Festival’s talent workshop

04.05.07

Building on the successfully implemented workshop talks of 2006 (with Stephen Frears, Christian Frei and Ueli Steiger et.al.), young film workers will again be offered the opportunity to participate “on a par” in the work ethics, experiences and ideas of renowned artists from the international film scene.

The Zurich Film Festival will organise the next Zurich Master Class (4 – 7 October 2007) at the Theater am Neumarkt in cooperation with Swiss television (SF).

In six workshop talks, each lasting four hours, 25 extremely promising, up-and-coming filmmakers will be given the opportunity to profit from the experience of international film professionals, receive new impulses for their own work and make interesting new contacts, which will be deepened and expanded at later meetings.

Workshop talks “on a par”

The aim of the Master Class is to allow young authors, directors and producers an insight into the knowledge and practice of renowned filmmakers. In the run-up to the workshop talks the participants will receive dossiers on themes relevant to the
talks with the experts as comprehensive preparatory material. All selected applicants are required to prepare 3 – 5 questions per workshop talk in order to encourage active participation in the discussions. The Zurich Film Festival is delighted to have secured Christine Dorn (since 2006) as an experienced manageress for the Zurich Master Class. Christine supervised the Berlinale Talent Campus from 2002 until 2005.

Zürich – Zurich – Zurigo

As an international event the, Zurich Film Festival’s main focus is on intercultural exchange. Because cultural identity in Switzerland always means multilingualism, the Zurich Master Class will be conducted in the German, French and Italian languages. Applicants have been invited to take part from Switzerland, Austria, France, Italy and Germany.

Exchange, inspiration and lasting contacts

Here, the development of lasting exchange takes precedence: In order to ensure the continuity and sustainability of established contacts, the Zurich Film Festival creates a general framework for the participants to meet regularly after the festival in October.
