And the winners are...: The 3rd Zurich Film Festival’s Closing Night
The prize winners of the 3rd Zurich Film Festival have been determined. The jury of the 3rd Zurich Film Festival awarded the “Golden Eye” to the three winners of the competition series at the glamorous Closing Night on October 6, 2007 at the Kaufleuten. Winner of the category Debut Feature Film is Jarrett Schaefer with “Chapter 27”. “The Band’s Visit (Bikur Hatizmoret)” by Eran Kolirin won the category New Fiction Film. Dan Cox won over
the jury with his first doc “Running with Arnold” and took the Golden Eye in the category New Documentary Film. “A Tribute To...” guest Oliver Stone received a Golden Eye for his life’s work to rapturous applause. The Variety’s New Talent Award was presented for the first time at this year’s Zurich Film Festival. This was also awarded to Eran Kolirin for “The Band’s Visit (Bikur Hatizmoret)”. The Audience Prize went to the film “Twelve In A Box” by John McKenzie (Great Britain, 2006).
Prize winners, jury members, organisers and many guests from home and abroad celebrated the end of the 3rd Zurich Film Festival at the Afterparty. The newcomer star from England Jamie Scott and his band Jamie Scott & The Town delighted the flock of guests with a sentimental pop music sound.
Chapter 27 (Jarrett Schaefer, USA, 2006)
The whole jury was fascinated by this sensitive psychological study of Mark David Chapman, John Lennon’s assassin: “The film presents an interesting look at fame from the point of view of a fan. A view of people who look for links, connections, evidence to justify force and violence toward others.”
The Band’s Visit (Eran Kolirin, Israel/France, 2007)
The story of an Egyptian police band invited to perform in Israel but ending up in a small, remote village in the middle of the desert after a misunderstanding amused and touched the jury with its subtle humour. Jury member Bettina Oberli: “It is one of the most poetic films about loneliness and yearning that I have ever seen.”
Running with Arnold (Dan Cox, USA, 2006)
Dan Cox delivers a humorous and multifaceted portrait about one of the most famous and ambitious men of our time. The film (narrator: Alec Baldwin) shows the downside of Arnold Schwarzenegger’s fame. Jury member Dieter Meier: “Running With Arnold shows the tragedy of a man who has become a slave to success and power and has developed, in real life, into Terminator on Remote Control.” £
The winners of the three competition categories will be shown on Sunday, October 7, 2007:
Chapter 27: Frosch studio 1, 20.30
The Band’s Visit (Bikur Hatizmoret): Capitol 6, 20.30
Running with Arnold: Capitol 1, 21.00
