Zurich Talks Begins with a Highlight
A Magic Moment with Anke Engelke and Alexandra Maria Lara.
The Zurich Film Festival’s ZURICH TALKS series at the Theater am Neumarkt got off to a brilliant start on Friday. The great communicator Anke Engelke developed her discussion with the internationally active shooting star Alexandra Maria Lara (“Der Untergang”) to an intimate exchange of thoughts with a close friend and simultaneously to a verbal game of ping-pong with the audience – and enthusiastic approval! No less promising is the rest of the ZURICH TALKS programme, which allows the festival’s guests to take an illuminating glimpse behind the scenes of the film and cinema business.
- On Saturday, September 29, the matter of film financing is discussed under the title “PUBLIC AND OTHER HANDS” – often an adventurous business.
- On Monday, October 1, under the title “FRESH FROM THE EAST”, renowned exponents of Russia’s filmic output will give an insight into the development of cinema during Vladimir Putin’s presidency.
- On Tuesday, October 2, there is the possibility to get close to the members of the international jury: Whoever misses the opportunity to meet our Oscar nominated director Bettina Oberli (“Herbstzeitlosen” and others), the German Superstar Moritz Bleibtreu, “Yello” co-founder Dieter Meier, the prestigious Director Albert S. Ruddy (“Godfather”, “Million Dollar Baby” and others), and the actors Justus von Dohnanyi and Matthew Modine have only themselves to blame. - On Wednesday, October 3, the festival focuses on a further top-class guest: The French author Eric-Emmanuel Schmitt, the fascinating cross-border commuter between literature, stage and screen. - On Thursday, October 4, an expert panel, including the director of “Grounding” Michael Sauter, will discuss the sudden success of German-speaking film.
- On Friday, October 5, the flip side of the coin will be highlighted and the question as to whether downloading is a consumer right or simple piracy will be debated.
The talks from Friday 29.09 until Thursday 04.10 will begin at 12:00 midday and will all take place at the Theater am Neumarkt. The talk on Friday 05.10 will take place at the Zunfthaus zur Saffran.
