Texas, 1984: Natalia and Elena Levin, two sisters forced to separate in their teens, meet again nine years later in the USA, a country foreign to both of them. Their reunion and an unpublished novel by their dead father, a writer and intellectual, confront the sisters with the past. As soon as Natalia begins reading the novel she realises that her father, in his last work, has penned the story of her family during the dictator-ship in Argentina. She becomes hopeful of finding answers to the mysterious disappearance of her friend Martín. How did the authorities know where to find him? Who betrayed him?
"Hermanas" is a powerful and intimate film about family, betrayal and forgiving, and a sophisticated examination of Argentina’s difficult past.
